Chairperson’s Report

Tudor Squares currently has over 100 members making it one of the largest square dance clubs in the country.
However we are now facing an uncertain future as Covid 19 is preventing us from enjoying our usual dancing activities.

Our Beginners group had almost completed learning all the programme of moves and would have soon been already to graduate.
When we are able to resume dancing all of us will need a period of refreshing / relearning.
Some of us have been trying the Plus level Virtual Dancing that Kevin Lovell has been running – it isn’t easy trying to dance with ghosts in your square!

We have regrettable had to cancel both our Mainstream and Plus Dances. The Mainstream dance was cancelled at the eleventh hour -after a lot of soul searching. Followed by more cancellation of our usual Social activities – no Spring walk, no Summer Garden Party, no Summer Outing.

Two current members of the club sadly passed away this year, Maureen Flint who danced at the Plus level and Michael Ginger. Michael supported the club at all levels of dancing, he was especially involved with running the Beginner’s group. His cheerful face and cheeky grin is greatly missed.

I’d like to thank all the Committee and dancers for their support this year.
Our callers are key so many thanks go to Phil, Debbie and Becca Peel – Mainstream and Beginners’s callers. Susie Kelly our Plus caller, Simon and Trudie Fielding callers at A group and not forgetting Andrew Agathangelou for calling at both Plus and A groups – very many thanks to all of you.

Nick Bedford has run regular Zoom Meetings for the A group, the A group even had a picnic in the park – all socially distanced.

I would like to thank Elena Hadaway who has been the Rep for the Plus group for several years. Elena has decided to step down as representative for the Plus group – she has been a very positive and encouraging influence for the Plus dancers. Many thanks Elena you will be greatly missed.

This year due to Covid there are no voting forms for Committee members. As no-one else has put themselves forward to serve on Committee, I’m pleased that all other members of the current Committee have agreed to remain on the Committee

As to the future – I do hope dancers will return when we are able to resume and with the help of our callers will soon enjoy dancing again. I’m sure that great deal of refreshing will be needed for both callers and dancers.

I have been optimistic and made a preliminary booking of Philip Mee to call at the Mainstream Dance in 2021 !!

As cases of Covid are now increasing again it is impossible to know where we will stand next year.
